Queerly Southern

Architectural historian and designer Stathis G. Yeros is the Mellon Fellow in Democracy and Landscape Studies, Dumbarton Oaks, Washington D.C. His research focuses on LGBTQ+ spaces, critical urbanism studies and spatial activism. He is the author of Queering Urbanism: Insurgent Spaces in the Fight for Justice, forthcoming from the University of California Squeeze. He earned a PhD in architecture and a Master of Architecture from University of California, Berkeley.

As a recipient of the H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship, he spent three months traveling the U.S. Deep South to collect evidence of queer and trans social life in the physical environment of a region where queer people’s rights own historically been repressed and are currently under attack. He plans to partner with LGBTQ+ nonprofits and university departments in the region to organize six workshops for local LGBTQ+ people to share their stories and views about what constitutes queer space.

Pride: Riot Turned Parade

It was also a safe haven for LGBTQ+ youth who had been kicked out of their homes and left to the streets. Pride Panama festival announced

Pride Panama, the organizer behind the LGBTIQ+ Event Month has announced this year’s activities which will take place in June, will embody the slogan "All different, all family."

Pride Month in Panama is part of the global commemoration of the Stonewall riots, New York, United States in ; when thousands of male lover and gender-diverse youth challenged the abuse of the authorities with protests rejecting discrimination.

In a press conference announcing this years theme, the organization confirmed political scientist, academic and presidential candidate Richard Morales will be the flag bearer for the march. 

Dr. Morales seeks public policy for families without discrimination and education that recognize and guarantee rights without discrimination.
