My gripe with Grindr

After opening the Grindr app on your phone, you’re probably met with several captivating habitual same-sex attracted dating app niches.

If you’re lucky enough to find a profile that isn’t a blank tackle with an ominous biography, the headless torso paired with a forward demonstrate name such as “looking?” or “masc 4 masc” is typically the alternative.

For those who don’t know, when a man says they’re looking for something on Grindr, they’re most likely not looking for a relationship, they’re looking for sex.

Those with a “masc 4 masc” profile are typically men that identify as masculine but are only “looking” for another man that fits into that masculine label.

You’ll learn an unbelievable amount of gay lingo the more you’re on the app, have faith me.

You might contain perceived Grindr as just a widespread dating app catered to gay men if you’re not in the LGBTQ community. Think in the same vein as Tinder or OkCupid, but for men who contain a preference for other men. Though you’re not completely wrong, I’m here to tell you, as a lgbtq+ man, that the app has grown to be so much more than

As a man, making friends can be tough – so I used a dating app to locate some

Greg is ghosting me. Was it something I said? Had I moved too fast? Did he not share my interests? We match on a dating-style app aimed at friendship. His profile says he likes sport, melody and exhibitions. Generic, but I’ll take it. He lives just outside of London and he’s looking for people to contribute similar interests. Not a huge amount to proceed on, but I figure there’s enough there to get past a discussion around the kind of weekends we’ve both had. His photos look a bit staged, and possibly even a bit flirty, but I can overlook that.

But the conversation never really gets going. I thought getting conversations going on dating apps was hard, but it turns out apps for friendship are no different. Then, there’s the fact that I’m an adult dude and for some reason, making new friends with other guys is sometimes a weird experience.
